There's
a lot of speculation on Zuma's State of the nation address. No doubt
the the Chinese model of state capitalism, will be the centrepiece.
Does
he intend to include the same restrictions for example that the
Chinese place on the internet? Now is the time, more than ever that
people have to conclude that this nonsense has gone to far. The
government seems to think that the private sector has failed to
invest in infrastructure to stimulate economic growth – it believes
that the state needs to play a more activist role in the economy.
Lack of investment in infrastructure over the past years is believed
to have stunted South Africa's growth. What people like Zuma have not
included is the fact that BEE is the main reason why the economy has
been stunted – 1.4 million jobs where lost and replaced with about
750 000 temporary jobs.
I
spoke to a man (he wasn't using a whiskey bottle for a walkie-talkie)
he was quite cross at the idea of a independent Cape of Good Hope.
The penny dropped after I found out, that in fact, he was from the
Transvaal and after finishing his studies at the University of
Stellenbosch he would return to his 'home-land' because he missed it
so much. He went of to tell me how 'shit' the Western Cape – Cape
Town, in particular, was. We don't need people like that now do we?
'Take it of leave it' as I always say.
I
believe that Zuma's State of the Nation Address is going to ruffle
more than a few tail feather's. Another 'brain-drain' in the country?
One hopes not. In the meantime, let us have a certain amount of
faith, that self-determination will clear, all obstacles in our
way...
