Wines of the Bored Doe

I have always enjoyed wine from Fairview Estate and my history is quite long with them, for example, if you find yourself in the the work areas, look at the floors – the are coated with epoxy resin that I helped make.

Fairview (aside from being very tongue in check with their wine names) has gone from strength to strength over the last few years and at a recent wine tasting I tried the following

-Mourvedre (dark fruit and spice very nice)

-They have an Argentina vine (Pegleg Carignan) which I found difficult to judge – it's very different to the regular variety's we have here in the Cape Republic.

-The Malbec, Goat-Roti (Goats do Roam) are best described as deliriously delicious.

Once again I was faced with Bordeaux (Bored Doe part of the Goats do Roam). It's not that it isn't a good blend rather that I'm certain that wine markers can either come up with a blend that reflects our wine better – after all, French wine is mostly bad (you need really bad wine to make good brandy) or stick to straight wines (shiraz, pinotage etc).

The cheese tasting was great – and was included with the wine tasting – R25! (the standard tasting, six wines) Talk about great value, we left with a few bottles of Goats Do Roam Rose (it was a silly price!) and quite a lot of cheese from their factory.

All in all it was a great experience, if you haven't been there, please do. Contact details: (021) 863 2450 or tasting@fairview.co.za
